Au revoir l'été...

Well, “it’s officially fall”. The end of summer… Winter is closing in on us (or if it’s anything like the past few days, it's more like it’s barreling toward us).  Can you feel me shudder at the thought of winter?  It has transformed from beautiful fall, complete with its 60-70 degree weather and vibrant colors…

...into, the bleak and nearly frozen tundra that I call Minnesota.
As I braved the cold and tidied up the backyard before the snow hits, my neighbors, most of whom I still haven’t met, may have found themselves wondering, "When did Cousin It move in next door"?
I would definitely say that I am a warm-weather person.  Some people really enjoy their Winter activities.  Maybe it's curling up by a fire with a good book and a steaming mug of hot cocoa or for others, it could be strapping on a pair of skis and gliding down a powdery slope (or in my opinion, the ice-layered, man-made hills that MN has to offer)… Let me be clear, this is definitely NOT me!  I would much rather bask in the warmth and sunshine than bundle up and brave the harsh elements.  And... if I curl up with a nice cup of cocoa, it had better have some Rumple Minze in it to help me get through the season.

Despite the inevitable weather, looking back, I realize I had a really great summer that was full of many changes, great events and fantastic new friends.   Here is a brief recap:

New city, new career:
On May 1, 2012, I began a new career as a "Spine Specialist" with company that distributes spinal implants and devices.  Although they are based in sunny California, this change in employment meant that I would be making the move back to Alexandria, MN in order to cut down on travel time.  It has been an adjustment.  Some of changes were welcomed with open arms (no traffic, a backyard, lakes, old friends), while some of the other changes... let's just say that they will take some getting used to.  I love that I have been able to spend time with people that I haven't seen in years and it's always fun to try something new, but I definitely miss the friends, restaurants, theaters and museums that I left behind in Minneapolis.

 Summer in Alexandria:
Summer in Alexandria is a wonderful thing.  Lots of people, beautiful lakes, gorgeous weather... what's not to love?  I was fortunate enough to be able to spend time on the lakes as well as hanging out with old and new friends: Beetles staff, new DCH friends, the "one-and-only" Doug from Raapers and my six favorite Dutch men!

Labor Day in Destin, FL:
Over Labor Day, my sister Tami and I headed down to Florida to visit some of our very good friends from Texas.  Despite the Hurricane the day before we arrived, we still had a fantastic weekend full of Vespas, a pontoon and lots of beach time (complete with sunburn...although let's be honest, that was mostly me...). A great time was had by all.  I vote we repeat this excursion next year?!?! :)

Introducing Marcus & Kelsie MATZ:
In early September I had the honor of being able to participate in one of my best friend's wedding. It was fantastic.  The weather cooperated, the country club was beautiful, Kelsie looked gorgeous and I got to spend the entire day with a lot of amazing people.   (The only thing that could have made the day better was if I had remembered to bring their gift to their wedding and not have to give it to Marcus ONE MONTH later while celebrating his birthday...oops!)

All in all, I cannot complain... Life is good!!  But like all good things, summer must come to an end.  So to the end of a great season, I guess I'll just say,

"Warmth, see you next year"
